The process of producing fine-art prints from a digital source by using an ink-jet printer is refered to as a Giclee print. In order for a fine-art print to qualify as Giclee, it would have to be produced by an inkjet printer, using fade-resistant inks and printed on archival paper.
At LinxPrint in Vancouver, our wide format inkjet printers use the CMYK colour process but have additional print cartridges for variations of each colour. These variations are based on the CMYK colour model and increase the resolution and the colour gamut to produce smoother gradient transitions. This results in amazingly vibrant and vivid fine-art prints meant to last for decades. Our fine art printer uses a 12-colour cartridge range to produce quality-unmatched Giclee prints.
Giclee prints are commonly used for reproduction of highly valued family photographs, art drawings or anything else that is intended to last for a long time without losing quality.
